Tips On Vehicle Magnets
Vehicle magnets are a great way to advertise your business without taking the next step into a more permanent vinyl or painted option. Although you might think there isn’t much to a vehicle magnet, there is more to keeping them in good shape and protecting your vehicle than you might think. Follow these simple steps to maximize the life of your magnets, protect your vehicle’s paint and clear coats, and keeping them on your car or truck for as long as possible!
- If possible, affix the magnets to smooth, flat or gently curved surfaces.
- Make sure the entire magnet is flat against the metal surface. This means no air bubbles.
- All edges of the magnet must be flat against your vehicle and should not be up on molding or hanging off a ridge. This WILL cause your magnets to peel away at higher speeds.
- Wash the back of your magnet and the vehicle with a mild detergent and water regularly. Many magnetic material manufacturers recommend doing this daily.
- Do NOT place the magnet on a vehicle that has been painted or clear coated in the last 30 days.
- If you place the magnet incorrectly, and need to reposition it, do NOT slide the magnet. Pick up the magnet and position it again. Sliding the magnet will cause scratching.
- Try moving the magnet from time to time to help with even fading by the sun.
- Avoid horizontal surfaces where the magnet will be in the sun such as the hood of your car.
- Avoid use when covering non metallic parts of your vehicle such as wood grain panels and body fillers. These will lessen the holding power of the magnet and cause them to peel off.
- When storing the magnets when not in use try to keep them flat. I stick my to my shop refrigerator.
